  • What qualities are most important for a political figure to have?

I should be in bed, but I’m gonna spit off a few ideas here….

    1. integrity. what the politician says, s/he should do. Period.  I’m tired of all the lies to get into office and the guy turns out to be just another political crony.
    2. perspicuity. say what you mean, and exactly what you mean.  End the double-talk and fuzzy generalities that mean nothing. In fact, I’d love to see a voluntary ban on all propaganda techniques.
    3. realism.  No one is going to outlaw abortion anytime soon or implement hardcore socialist ideals. Stop arguing for the extremes (in either party) and work for common ground that most of us can agree on.
    4. intelligence.  I like to see clear and levelheaded tackling of major issues in ways that show the politician actually understands the underlying issues.
    5. experience. Don’t ask me to vote you into major office if you’ve never managed anything larger than your family’s business. *coughs*

I’m pretty much burned out on the 2008 elections already, and the primaries aren’t for another 4 months!  This whole “let’s campaign for 2 years” thing has got to go. And when did debates turn into nothing more than party commercials
instead of a real discussion of issues that matter? Those moderators need to lay down the law and push for real answers to the questions.  Political drivel sucks.

    OK, I think I’m done.

I just answered this Featured Question, you can answer it too!
